People are becoming more sedentary, and this is not good for anyone’s health, particularly children. Kids need to be active to learn about the world and develop strong muscles and bones. Here are some ways to get them outdoors even when the weather is a bit chilly.

Make it an adventure
It is never too early to start appreciating nature, so why not go on a walk and encourage the kids to note trees and other vegetation? A walk at dusk may be a good time to lower noise levels and see if it is possible to spot some wildlife. Even if you don’t see anything, the exercise is good for everyone.
For more details on the benefits of encouraging children to get plenty of exercise, see this report from The Guardian.
Why stop at dusk? Dress warmly, grab some torches or head lamps, and head out for a night hike in your neighbourhood. This can be an opportunity to see familiar surroundings in a totally different way and bond with each other during an expedition through the frosty darkness.
Use some energy
If kids and adults have access to bicycles, why not go for a bicycle ride? You could plan a route that takes in easy terrain, perhaps with a stop at a cafe or kiosk for refreshments. Dress properly with jackets that are wind- and rain-proof, but keep in mind all that pedalling will make everyone warm.
Organise a scavenger hunt. Make a list of things for the kids to find, and perhaps have some treats and prizes to reward their efforts. You could even do this in your own garden, hiding items in trees or on play equipment such as the childrens wooden climbing frames. If you would like to find out more about childrens wooden climbing frames so your kids can become more active, take a moment to look at the website of a reputable supplier such as https://www.niclimbingframes.com/ for advice and ideas.
Cold weather does not have to be a deterrent to fun activities. The activities children can do outdoors when it’s cold are only limited by imagination. Get creative, get active and help children see the world as a place that’s always ready to be enjoyed, no matter the weather.
