Summer salad at the height of freshness

With the arrival of summer, a fresh detox salad is the best choice for a quick and healthy meal. But how to keep fresh vegetables when you don’t have the opportunity to shop every day or to wash everything at the moment?

We imagined a classic summer salad based on a green salad, tomato, onion, and aromatic herbs: here are our tips to keep these ingredients always fresh!

How do you usually create your perfect salad?

How to freeze aromatic herbs

Separate the leaves of your favorite herb (we recommend parsley, basil, sage, and bay leaf) from the stems. Clean the leaves one by one with a damp cloth, distribute them on a tray lined with aluminum foil and let them air dry.

Then place them in the freezer in one of our  Fridge Bags, ideal for ensuring greater conservation thanks to the special composition of the material. One more trick? Use Ice Cubes: from time to time you can only take the content you need.

With this little tip, you can use the fruits of your gardening work all year round, even out of season!

How to preserve the onion already cut

If you have already partially used your onion, cut the irregular areas, otherwise, you risk making it moldy. Then cover it with cling film for food. The good quality of the Virosac film ensures that it adheres to the surface perfectly, preventing the formation of moisture.

Finally, put the onion in the fridge  (in the drawer dedicated to fruit and vegetables) and keep it for a maximum of 2-3 days.

How to preserve the salad to always have it green and crunchy

Use a basin with warm water and a few tablespoons of baking soda, an excellent odorless and tasteless disinfectant. Leave the salad to soak for 15-20 minutes, then rinse it thoroughly.

Then dry everything with a cloth or a salad spinner, and place the leaves in a PP tray with a lid, previously covered with absorbent paper.

Seal the lid and refrigerate your salad, ready to be stored!

Some ideas for spring and summer

These ingredients are excellent for cooking simple and delicious recipes, but imagination has no limits.

Any inspiration? Prepare a tasty bean and onion salad with a sprinkle of parsley. Or accompany the salad with good fish: shrimp, parsley, and lemon. Do you like strong and rustic tastes instead? Slice a Tropea onion and season with tomatoes and a few sprigs of basil.

There is no shortage of vegetarian and vegan variants: mix quinoa or barley with vegetables for a cold and tasty salad, but also super energizing.

Now that we have seen how to store vegetables and some of the many perfect combinations for a tasty and inviting dish, the choice and imagination in the kitchen is up to you!
