Keeping yourself on track with your New Year’s resolutions

We have reached that time of year were people are setting themselves resolutions and goals for the coming year. New Year’s resolutions are nothing new and can cover everything from trying to eat healthier and lose weight, through to learning a new skill or perhaps having a clear out of items in your house that no longer serve a purpose. For many new goals the only thing you need is the motivation and determination to continue with your chosen goal throughout the year or the given timescale that you have set for yourself. Others like having a good clear out might require a little bit of planning and perhaps booking in Skip Hire Swansea from a company such as pendragoncarmarthenshire.co.uk to make your removal of all the unwanted items that you have run a little bit smoother.

There are a number of things that you need to consider when setting yourself any kind of goal but in particular for those goals that you are looking to set at the beginning of the year. This is because although it may seem like a great idea to set yourself some new intention at the beginning of the calendar year, it can eb one of the harder times to maintain motivation, partly due to the fact that it is in the middle of winter and the weather is often miserable and the days are plunged into longer periods of darkness. As well as these factors the come down from the festive period and New Year’s Eve can also make it harder for you to stay motivated and on track with your goals.

Here are two simple things that you can do to help ensure that you don’t break your New Year’s resolutions before Spring even arrives.

  1. Prepare as much as you can both physically and mentally. This is important as if you have set goals in the past and not achieved them it is a good idea to try and work out why this might have been so that you can avoid the same pitfalls in the future. The same can be said for finding positives in goals that you have achieved in the past and highlighting things that may have helped with this so you can implement them again if appropriate.
  2. Try not to set huge goals and if you do make sure that you break the down into smaller bit sized ones so that you aren’t setting yourself up to fail. Breaking down any goal is a good idea as you can then see the smaller tasks being completed sooner and this in turn helps to keep you motivated and will encourage you to work through the next piece of the larger puzzle. For some goals it is worth adding timescales or deadline dates that you can focus on rather than having an open-ended goal that seems to go on forever.
